Ingredients

Cheese Crust

  • ½ cup (4 oz) cream cheese
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup shortening
  • 1 cup sifted flour
  • ⅛ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Apple Filling

  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 5–6 cups sliced apples
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Steps

Cheese Crust

  1. Blend together the cream cheese, butter, and shortening until smooth.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the sifted flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the cheese mixture to the flour mixture and cut together with a pastry blender until combined.
  4. Press the dough into a ball. Cover with waxed paper and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

Apple Filling

  1. Combine sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss with the sliced apples.
  2. Roll out the chilled dough and line a 9-inch pie pan. Add the apple filling and dot with 1 tablespoon butter. Add top crust as desired.
  3. Bake at 425° for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 325° and bake for 20 minutes more. (Total baking time approximately 35 minutes.)
