Ingredients
Cheese Crust
- ½ cup (4 oz) cream cheese
- ¼ cup butter
- ¼ cup shortening
- 1 cup sifted flour
- ⅛ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Apple Filling
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg
- 5–6 cups sliced apples
- 1 tablespoon butter
Steps
Cheese Crust
- Blend together the cream cheese, butter, and shortening until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the sifted flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the cheese mixture to the flour mixture and cut together with a pastry blender until combined.
- Press the dough into a ball. Cover with waxed paper and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
Apple Filling
- Combine sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss with the sliced apples.
- Roll out the chilled dough and line a 9-inch pie pan. Add the apple filling and dot with 1 tablespoon butter. Add top crust as desired.
- Bake at 425° for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 325° and bake for 20 minutes more. (Total baking time approximately 35 minutes.)
