Ingredients
- 1 inch fresh ginger, chopped coarse
- 1 small onion, chopped (for paste)
- 2 cloves garlic
- Juice of ½ lemon
- 1 tablespoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon chilli powder
- 1 tablespoon coriander seed
- 2 teaspoons turmeric
- 2 teaspoons garam masala
- 1 green chilli, sliced
- 2 tablespoons oil or ghee
- 1½ lb. beef
- 1 onion, chopped (for cooking)
- 2 bay leaves
- ½ pint water (added gradually)
- 2 tablespoons water (for paste)
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
Steps
- Blend the ginger, small onion, garlic, and lemon juice together to a coarse paste.
- Add the cumin, chilli powder, coriander, turmeric, and garam masala along with 2 tablespoons of water. Blend until smooth.
- Stir the sliced green chilli pepper into the spice paste and set aside.
- Heat the oil or ghee in a pan. Cook the beef and chopped onion together until browned.
- Stir in the spice paste and cook for 3–4 minutes.
- Add the bay leaves and ½ pint of water gradually.
- Season with salt and black pepper.
- Cover and simmer for about 50–75 minutes, until the beef is tender.
