Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients
- 2¼ cups unsifted flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup margarine or butter, softened
- ½ cup shortening
- 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 (12-ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate morsels (e.g. Borden®)
- 1 cup chopped nuts
Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Decrease flour to 1¾ cups
- 1½ cups oats
Steps
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- In a small bowl, sift or stir together the flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
- In a large mixer bowl, beat the margarine (or butter), shortening, brown sugar, and sugar together until creamy.
- Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract.
- Add the flour mixture and mix well.
- Stir in the chocolate morsels and nuts.
- Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls, 2 inches apart, onto ungreased baking sheets.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until lightly browned.
Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Decrease flour to 1¾ cups and add 1½ cups oats to the dry ingredients, then proceed as above.
