Ingredients

  • Lettuce (amount not specified)
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 slices bacon
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon water

Steps

  1. Break lettuce into a bowl.
  2. Sprinkle 3 tablespoons of sugar over the lettuce.
  3. Add 1 teaspoon of salt and mix the lettuce ("etc." suggests tossing well).
  4. Cut 2 slices of bacon into small pieces. Fry until crisp, reserving the hot drippings.
  5. Add the bacon pieces to the lettuce and mix.
  6. Mix 1 tablespoon of vinegar with 1 tablespoon of water and pour over the lettuce.
  7. Pour the hot bacon drippings over the salad and mix.
