Ingredients

  • 2¼ cups unsifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup margarine or butter, softened
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (12-ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate morsels (e.g. Borden®)
  • 1 cup chopped nuts

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • Decrease flour to 1¾ cups
  • 1½ cups oats

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a small bowl, sift or stir together the flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  3. In a large mixer bowl, beat the margarine (or butter), shortening, brown sugar, and sugar together until creamy.
  4. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract.
  5. Add the flour mixture and mix well.
  6. Stir in the chocolate morsels and nuts.
  7. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls, 2 inches apart, onto ungreased baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until lightly browned.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

  1. Decrease flour to 1¾ cups and add 1½ cups oats to the dry ingredients, then proceed as above.
