Ingredients

  • 1¼ cups flour
  • ¾ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup margarine (oleo), softened
  • ½ cup peanut butter (either smooth or chunky)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a bowl; set aside.
  3. Beat margarine until creamy. Beat in sugar and peanut butter until smooth.
  4. Add egg and vanilla; mix well.
  5. Stir in the dry ingredients until blended.
  6. Add chocolate chips and stir to combine.
  7. Optional (as noted by the baker): chill dough in the refrigerator before baking.
  8. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  9. Flatten each ball with a fork, making a criss-cross design.
  10. Bake about 8 minutes, until edges are golden.
  11. Cool on the cookie sheet for 1 minute before removing.
